The performance was exclusively presented in the original attic space from the ghetto era

The theatrical performance “Terezínské zvony” took place in the unique setting of the attic space in Terezín, where attic performances were held during the ghetto era. The space was opened to the public for one evening only, after more than 70 years.

The attic of house No. 266 in Terezín still holds the remains of a cabaret stage from the ghetto era. For the first time in 72 years, it was possible not only to visit this space publicly but also to directly experience it, symbolically returning to a time that was filled with not only darkness but also the courage and solidarity of ordinary people.

“Terezínské zvony” have left a profound impact on me. The meticulously crafted performance vividly evokes the atmosphere of the Terezín Ghetto. I watched the performance in the Třebíč Jewish Synagogue alongside Pavel Fried, a person who experienced these horrifying moments in human history firsthand as a child in Terezín. I saw tears in his eyes, I saw him nodding in agreement, and I saw the pride with which he welcomed the fact that the younger generation does not forget the dark past. I also saw hope that peaceful coexistence among people of different beliefs is not a utopia in the present world. That’s how powerful the performance was.
