The Traveling Exhibition about the Vedem Magazine
(2012-2018)

Seventy years ago, in the harsh conditions of the Theresienstadt ghetto, a group of boys decided to take their fate into their own hands. At Boys’ Home 1, they established their own self-government and began publishing a magazine that regularly came out for almost two years. In it, those who awaited transport to the hell of concentration camps not only expressed their memories, fears, and joys but also conveyed messages to those who would live to see happier times.

The exhibition presents the living and creative conditions of the boys and what they read together from the magazine every Friday. However, we also want to show how their journey continues to this day and inspires more and more young people. Hopefully, it will encourage you as well to become a part of their story.

Thanks

We would like to express our gratitude to all who have helped us not only in preparing this exhibition but also in our journey of uncovering past destinies and events: the Terezín Initiative and all the survivors who have shared their memories and life wisdom with us, especially Jiří Brady and Chava Pressburger; the Jewish Museum in Prague, which generously supported all our plans and provided us with assistance, support, and a foundation; the Terezín Memorial for kindly lending us materials used in the exhibition and for their long-term support of our activities in Terezín; all the student teams participating in the “Take Over the Terezín Relay” competition, their teachers, and parents, for their amazing work, enthusiasm, perseverance, and friendship. The Holocaust Victims’ Foundation, which kindly supported the exhibition’s journey across cities throughout our country. Above all, we extend our gratitude to all the living and deceased boys and girls from the Theresienstadt ghetto who have inspired, supported, informed, and together with us, created a beautiful community. Our work is dedicated to them and to those who will one day take over their relay.
